The main story of The Country Wife concerns Harry Horner, who spreads rumors that he contracted a venereal disease that has left him impotent, "hoping that gullible men will leave their wives, sisters, and daughters with Horner without suspicion that he might seduce them." (LitChart). In another part of the story, Mr. Pinchwife has brought his new wife, Margery, to London, but fears Horner will seduce her, and, of course, he eventually does. The play is full of witticisms, banter, and bawdy humor typical to this period of drama.
